Becks count: 3487953848458
[livejournal.com profile] worldoftights: David Beckham is all over the news. It's Becks this. Becks that.
Mother: Who's David Beckham?
[livejournal.com profile] worldoftights: The footballer. Y'know, married to Posh Spice?
Mother: Oh. A footballer. That's why I don't know who he is. I don't watch football.

*facepalm*

I vote for the first time ever in no less than a federal election tomorrow. That's a bit weird for me. It seems like they somehow deliberately scheduled it for the year I turn 18, and then straight afterwards my HSC, leaving little to no time for politically disinterested me to do my research. If I have to do something, I have to do it thoroughly -- I have to do it right.

On a tangent, do you remember the games you used to played as a child? I'm not talking about "House" and cops and robbers, but things like "Red Rover (Cross Over)", "BP", "Eggs, Bacon, Chips or Cheese", "Fruit Salad", "Heads Down, Thumbs Up", "Good Morning Judge", "What's the Time, Mr. Wolf?" and "Sardines". You know those games that involved group organisation and plain out fun? I recall playing "Stuck in the Mud" in one of the most successful netball training sessions we had, as our club failed in it's duty of assigning us a coach -- we went on to actually win the following weekend game, a rarity for us (given the unfair circumstances).

I may not remember the rules to BP any longer (and I wonder how these games get passed down and remembered if we forget them once "outgrowing" them, which I disagree with as I'm up for a game of BP, Eggs, Bacon Chips or Cheese, or Sardines any day), but I do remember grassy shaded areas and the phases where my favourite colours switched from pink to blue to purple (to never favour pink again), my favourite car was a "Bluebird" only due to the fact it had a three person front seat, and I loved sitting up front, and my favourite tree was the "Bottle Tree" because of it's magnificent rounded shape, and the fact it stored water.

Before I wander too far down memory lane... do you remember these childhood games? Or any others besides the ones I've mentioned? Do you remember the rules to BP? Or shall I continue to wander back alone?

In closing, I have a confession to make in regards to my favourite werewolf, but that can wait until tomorrow or some other time, just to irk a particular person :P

I have never heard of BP...I don't think so anyway.
Becks is the only football player my mom's heard of. And Cesc and "that tall skinny one" (i.e. Robin) but I suspect she only knows the latter two because I have their posters on my wall.
I didn't get to spam you today. :\

Maybe it was a local thing :/
From my what my limited memory can recall, it involved one person being "in" and another being the messenger (who would replace the "in" person after they lost their title). A question would be asked, something like "Favourite Tree". The messenger would get the answers off the participants and relay it to the person who was "in". The "in" person would then pick an answer and announce it. The participant who's answer it was would approach the "in" person", who's back was turned with eyes shut, and trace the letters "BP" on their back before returning to the other participants. The messenger would notify the "in" person when it was safe to turn around, and then the "in" person would guess which participant had drawn "BP" on their back. If they were correct, they would remain in. If they were wrong, they were banished to be a participant, whilst the messenger became "in" and the participant became the messenger. Unless I've completely got things mixed up, as I recall that there may have been running involved... *facepalm*

And good, since I didn't get to catch up yet.
I only woke up at 3:30pm. I'm at work now and actually have things to do tonight as well. D:

And my mother only knows Kakà, whom she refers to as "that Kikikaka". Yet, she still can't pick him out, even though he holds his own in my room alongside Andriy, and my Cristiano (to be revamped into Manchester United) door.

my brother, dad and i use to play games like 'may i' where you and other people stand at one end and another at the other and they go

"take 2 steps" and you have to ask "may i?" before you move, if you dont you have to go all the way back to beginning. bit like simon says in reverse. i play it with my siblings now, teach ems good manners!

also we use to play 'when i go to the moon, im going to take [insert item that starts with the same letter as your name]"

I shall have to remember that one for the future. There is no chance in hell that my kids are going to be like the rude miscreants I've encountered. *shudders*

I think I played a version of "when I go to the moon" except I can't remember what was said instead.

Did you ever play "poison letter"?

*grinds teeth* You are an evil, evil person. :P

And yes, I do remember some of those games, but for whatever reason, we called it "Heads Up, Seven Up" instead of "Heads Down, Thumbs Up." Your name makes a lot more sense. I also remember hating Red Rover.

And you are still evil.

What are you doing awake so late anyway?
Oh right. You have time off for Thanksgiving, right?
In that case, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
But still, you should be in bed and I should be working, since I'm at work and slept through the whole day and you know, actually have things I should be doing. Eek.

In closing. MOO HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!
You know you love me, and my torturous ways *winks*

And yeah, where the hell did "Seven Up" come from anyway? Typical Americans, commercialise everything :P I wasn't a big fan of Red Rover at the time either, not that I remember how to play now... XD

Okay, so that really wasn't "in closing" but this is.
GO TO BED!!! <3

Lol @ yo mumma.

Wasnt BP the one where you have on person out the front, the rest are behind them and then they have to sneak up on the other person. Like the prson out front would turn their back occasionally and you could only move when they had their back turned. Then the one out the front would turn around quickly and try and catch the other people moving. If they did, then they'd be 'out'.

Or maybe that was Redlight, Greenlight. *shrugs* That's the only one I remember. And Tip. But that doesn't really count. MURDER IN THE DARKK~~. Umm yes. That is all.

Vote for the Greens coz Bob Brown is nice. And your votes will go to Labor anyway. And for the next four years we'll be students/workers and Labor *should* help us.

Wow. Really? You know, I sometimes wish that David Beckham was, actually, an "ordinary" footballer (and just that), who only people interested in football were familiar with. But, honestly, most people who are ignorant in regards to the sport do know who he is. (Maybe for the wrong reasons, but there we have it.) So, yeah, weird.

I dont know any of those games except Red Rover. T_T

But I think "Heads Up, Thumbs Down" sounds like what we used to play in elementary called "Heads Up, Seven Up" why it is called that, I have no idea.

We also played Eraser Tag, which I vaguely remember included someone having an eraser on their head and they are trying to persue and catch someone else around the classroom. I liked that. This cute kid named Michael was trying to get me. He had a ponytail though and that turned me off. HAHA.

How could you not know Becks?!!? *dies*

I do remember "Red Rover," and the last two. I also enjoyed "Cops and Robbers," "Grounder," and "Capture the Flag," when I was a lass of the schoolyard game-age. I remember that Hopscotch was never as fun as it was made out to be, and that not cheating at "Grounder" was considered a sin. Ahhh, the schoolyard. We played a lot with swings, too. Wrapping ourselves around the poles, leaping off, banging into one another.

Now I'm going to go off in a rant until I can do nothing but sit in a stupor and chant skipping rhymes at random intervals. Thanks muchly. :)

LOL Uh, she lives under a rock? Under a rock on the non-commercialised most isolated of regions on Mars? Or perhaps Pluto, seeing as you know, it's no longer being recognised as a planet, so I figure it's no longer deemed important enough to receive up to date Earth information ;D

I only know "Capture the Flag" due to The Simpsons (seriously, who says that it's not educational?!), but I have absolutely no idea what "Grounder" is. Please do enlighten me! Perhaps I'll be able to file it away for the future fruits of my womb and perhaps they'll even start a cool trend amongst their little ignorant friends, and they'll find themselves subjected to worldly influences before they were even aware that there is such a world beyond their white picket fence (Note: The white picket fence is purely fictional. There is no way I'm living in a place with a white picket fence, thank you very much.)

I miss how delightfully active I was as a youngster. There just doesn't seem to be anything as physically fun nowadays.

You're most welcome! :]

Confession? Involving your favorite werewolf? *is intrigued*

As to childhood games, I can remember going to summer playground and playing with two other girls. They suggested hide-and-go-seek. Tag. I wanted to play a make-believe of sorts, pretending to be someone else, like every little kid does. So I told them. 'Make believe?' they asked. 'What are the rules?'
