post-formal
The Formal was unpropitious (highly overrated and overpriced in my humble opinion), but nonetheless a welcome change of pace (minus the high heel hobble) and a good opportunity to see everyone one last time.
I, being completely irresponsible, forgot to bring my camera, so am planning to mooch photos off everyone else at some stage, so I apologise for the lack of visuals.

Casting my little critical eye over the night's events, I'd have to say the experience wasn't pleasant, although the company was amiable. The food was... not to my taste (the lettuce in my salad was browning! the chicken in my main was dry! the bread roll was hard as a rock! can't complain about the sorbet though). The normally short walk from my home to work and to the formal to work were excruciating (note to self: break in heels before wearing) and I have battle wounds that still ache and will most likely pester me for another week. The speeches made me cringe -- as forced as my waking up anytime before 10am; completely foul and illegal. The music jackhammered in my head. Clubby dance stuff; the music cockroaches breed to, pumped so loud conversation was futile, unless one took turns shouting into each other's ear...

But everyone (okay, mostly everyone) looked lovely and I would do it all again. It's just one of those things that you have to experience, or you'd regret it for the rest of your life.
It didn't hurt that I manage to pick up an award, to my utter astonishment, for no valid reason that I can possibly think of. The Reuben F Scarf Award. I'm not quite sure what it exactly entails, but apparently it requires me to attend the dreaded school Presentation Day in December, where I am to return the award to school so that I may be re-presented with it during the tedious award ceremony. Just when I'd thought I had escaped that hell hole institution of raging adolescents.

I'm aware I have a few things to do now, regarding both LJ and otherwise. I'll have the voice post up sometime, I promise B1; answer both sets of questions for [livejournal.com profile] sexyjohnlennon & [livejournal.com profile] buggerfck; recommence proper flisting, I'm a monster, I know; not to mention set up the Christmas card/art post I've been promising for months.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] mcollinknight!! I feel the need to tell you that I had my first non-apple, non-meat pie after dinner!! It was blueberry!! *beams*

Ugh. Year 10! At the time it was fun and all, but probably because I was too busy being smug over certain boys and such... which is just plain embarrassing now.
Please tell me that at least yours took place at a nicer venue!

LOL She wins many, many more points. Alcohol was banned at mine. We were told we'd get escorted off the premise if we were found in possession of alcohol. If we left the formal we also were not allowed back in. And both parents and teachers were also in attendance at the formal. How is that for lame?!
